A Blog about Writing, Reading and Everything Else In Between by Rosie Travers

About Me

My passion for writing began at a very early age. My first 'proper' story to achieve acclaim was  written at infants school, an illustrated paragraph about a multi-coloured creature called Fred who lived in a cave. Looking back, he looked a little like Elmer the elephant, but this was way before Elmer's time.  From then on I dabbled. As a teenager I scribbled, then typed numerous novels and short stories, none of which I was ever brave enough to show to anyone.

My hobby was put on hold as distractions such as mortgages, marriage, and motherhood got in the way. In fact it stayed hidden for a good twenty or so years until I unexpectedly found myself with far too much time on my hands. In 2009 I left the UK to accompany my husband on an overseas work assignment to California. I went from being a working mum of two, to a stay at home mom of one. I had sunshine, a pool, and a giddy ex-pat social life, yet I was desperately home-sick and at times very lonely. So I started a blog about my life in the US, and from there everything mushroomed. I re-discovered my creative juices.

When I returned to the UK I undertook a part-time creative writing course, always intending to transform my blog into some kind of book, but it never happened. Instead my love of writing fiction took over. I had a couple of competition successes with short stories and flash fiction, joined Hampshire Writers Society and the Romantic Novelists New Writers Scheme. Another overseas assignment followed, this time to the Netherlands, and again I found myself with the time to dedicate to writing and polishing off that all important first novel.

I  now live full-time  on the south coast of England, with my very patient husband, and a very spoilt cat.

My debut novel, The Theatre of Dreams, will be published by The Crooked Cat in summer 2018.
